Emergency
Passport gone
- Search everything first. Be certain.
- Police station. Get a report with a reference number.
- Your embassy's emergency line. Ask for the fastest option.
- Your insurer. Give them the police reference.
- Ask what the emergency document actually permits.
Medical
-
Life-threatening: nearest hospital now. Ask your accommodation which
one.
-
Serious but not immediate: call your insurance line first, let them
direct you.
-
Manageable: pharmacy or walk-in clinic. Your own kit first.
Flight cancelled
- Ask: within your control, or extraordinary circumstances?
- Photograph the departure board. Keep every boarding pass.
-
Ask explicitly for meals, drinks, and a hotel if overnight.
-
Ask for refund or rerouting, including on another airline.
- File the compensation claim afterwards, in writing.
No access to money
- Your backup card, stored somewhere other than your wallet.
- Your bank's international line.
- Your insurance emergency line.
- The person at home you arranged this with.
- Your embassy last. They do not give out money.
Everything at once
- Sit down somewhere. Anywhere.
- Hold something warm.
- In for four. Hold for seven. Out for eight. Twice.
- Do not decide anything for twenty minutes.
